Karver KRO8 Open Friction Ring
The Karver KRO8 Open Friction Ring is a lightweight, purpose-designed solution for guiding continuous furling lines up to 8mm in diameter. Developed to suit the most common furling setups on cruising and performance yachts, it ensures smooth, controlled line handling from the furler drum back to the cockpit—making it the ideal choice for standard 8mm furling lines.
The innovative open-slot design allows the furling line to be quickly inserted or removed without the need to re-thread the system. This is particularly valuable on flying furlers, where ease of rigging and de-rigging is essential. Once in position, the optimised internal profile allows the rope to run freely under load while preventing it from escaping during use.
By keeping the furling line perfectly aligned into the drum and guiding it cleanly along stanchions or deck layouts, the KRO8 helps minimise friction and improve furling efficiency.
An integrated outer groove is designed to accept a bungee cord or light control line, allowing tension to be maintained on the furling line when not in use. This keeps the line neatly organised along the side decks, reducing slack and improving onboard safety.
Originally developed as a furling line guide and retrieval system, the KRO8 is also widely used for a variety of onboard applications including barber haulers, lazy jacks, reefing systems, and halyard deflection—anywhere a compact, low-friction solution is required.
